WEEK 6 - Friday 16 October 2026
Dear Parents and carers,
To promote one of our four values, namely Responsibility, I am introducing an award for the best table in the canteen over lunchtime. The award will be won, or lost, by the whole group so the behaviour of everyone at the table is important. The canteen is a pleasant place for students to sit and chat and enjoy their food so I thought that as in lessons, there should be an opportunity for students to be rewarded. It is a trial for next week and I will keep students updated.
On Tuesday this week, the Y9 and Y11 Boys Football teams won their first-round matches away to Goole in the National Cup. Y9 won 1-0 and Y11 won on penalties (5-4) following a 2-2 draw. They both progress to play South Hunsley in the next round.
Next Thursday we have a non-uniform day for all students. I am always impressed by how smart our students are and the way they conduct themselves around the school. When I say good morning to students, they inevitably reply. Indeed, we are now at the stage when I will hear “happy Friday” from a student or “hope you have a nice evening.” This is our way of saying thank you to them all. Expectations remain the same regarding behaviour and the guideline regarding clothing is for it to be “appropriate.” There was more detail in the separate email sent to you earlier this week.
The Year 7 Meet the tutor evening was a great success so again my thanks to all the parents and carers who attended. The hall was absolutely packed for the presentation, and all the tutor rooms were full too. What I really enjoyed was the energy and positivity that exuded all evening. The tutor is the one person your child will see every single day for their CARE period so strong relationships develop. Parents of other year groups will have received reports highlighting their attendance and behaviour alongside a general comment on their schooling. The attendance report includes the number of days your child has been absent. In many aspects of life, 90% is a high percentage but in attendance terms, it is low and a cause for concern. In short, it means one day absence every two weeks which in employment, would probably lead to dismissal. To those parents whose child has excellent attendance and positive attitudes to learning, my personal thanks to you. They will benefit from it for the rest of their lives.
Have a great weekend.
