Homework and Independent Learning
At Hessle High School, we are committed to ensuring that all students gain the knowledge, skills and experiences that prepare them for life beyond school.
Homework plays an important role in developing effective learning and study habits, while also encouraging students to become independent learners. Through regular self-study, students develop valuable skills that prepare them for further education and the world of work. These include:
- Recall and revision techniques
- Time management
- Research skills
- Problem-solving
- Resilience
- Independence
- Reading skills
These skills are essential for success in college and later life.
How do I know what homework my child has been set?
Students are expected to record homework in their planner, which should be the first point of reference. In addition, staff will post homework instructions as assignments on Microsoft Teams.
Parents and carers can access their child’s Teams page using their child’s login details.
Homework may take a variety of forms, including:
- Worksheets
- Online platforms such as Seneca Learning, Educake and Sparx Maths
- Extended writing tasks
- Creative projects
- Research-based activities
Where appropriate, resources will be made available on Microsoft Teams or the subject’s designated online platform. Please note that Microsoft Teams may not always be used to confirm completion of homework or to provide feedback.
Homework and Study Support
Class teachers are available to support students with specific questions about homework.
The Library provides a supervised space for students to complete homework, including online tasks, every day from 3.00pm to 4.00pm.
Additional SEND support is available through the Learning Support Team at lunchtime and after school.
